We had an anniversary at the end of September and both our birthdays in the middle of October. All that made the first cold days of autumn less painfull and brought some candle lit joy to the countdown towards winter. Last year I had a pretty depressing lonely birthday, but it was really how most of the year had passed. But this time, following a year of generally higher spirits, I got to start off my 29th trip around the sun with a great night with good food, good music, cake with... (more)

Loved loved loved Portico Quartet. Youngblood Brass Band was energetic, agressive and raw (after the show someone described them as "Brass Asian Dub Foundation") and... (more)

I was tagged by Cheap Opulence to tell seven things about myself and tag seven other people to do the same... because I love Mrs Opulence with all my heart, here goes with seven random facts :

1. I've worked as a receptionist in Spain, but I don't like talking on the phone at all. But I still liked the job.

2. I'm not religious, but I like churches and find all religious imagery really fascinating.

3. Once someone told me that my short
hair makes me look like a lesbian. I got quite offended even though the
person who said this was very drunk (and a hairdresser...), I've had
short... (more)

It's midsummer this weekend. Although in the UK you couldn't tell. It's the weekend of Glastonbury festival and the druids and hippies did their celebrating at Stonehenge on the day of the summer solstice, but there's nothing like the Finnish "juhannus". No bank holiday, no bonfires, no mass evacuation from the cities to the countryside to have saunas, swim in the lakes and get drunk. No post juhannus body count in the media, but no midnigth sun neither! On the night of the 21st I was looking for a webcam from Finland to give someone an idea of what the light nights out there are like...
